Marjorie Lorraine Robinson (nee. Piper.) (1931-2008)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marge Robinson. Marge was born January 23, 1931 in Red Deer, Alberta. She passed away peacefully at her home of 50 years on June 29, 2008 in Dawson Creek, B.C.
Marge was the eldest of four children born to Susie and Forrest Piper. She grew up with her siblings Grace, Frank and Ron in Red Deer Alberta, where she took practical nursing in school. There she also met her first husband Sandy Templeton. Marge and Sandy were married in Red Deer in 1950. After moving to Lac La Biche, then later to Grande Prairie, she settled down to live her life in Dawson Creek B.C. Many years later after a lengthy relationship, she married her best friend Russ Robinson in 1990.
Through the years Marge has held many posts. On top of being a full time mother, she spent many years teaching Sunday school and working at the Dawson Creek Post Office. For 55 years she was very involved with the Royal Purple. For a number of those years she was Honored Royal Lady and District Deputy.
Marge, a gifted artist, best expressed herself and captured memories to share with friends and family through her writings and paintings. She believed her major influences in life were her Aunt Edith, mother and father, husband Russ and belief in God.
Marge was a volunteer in the community, not only in Dawson Creek, but also in San Carlos, Mexico where she spent many of her winters with Russ. Every year before the long trip, careful planning had her stock piling books for the library she helped set up and maintain there. Also collected were toys and necessities to be taken for the local children. While in Mexico, she befriended the families of Armando, Anna and their children, as well as Roberto, Rosie and their children. This bond grew greater when Armando traveled back with them to Canada one season. He worked while living with Marge and Russ to take money back to his family in Mexico the following winter. This gave Marge great comfort as she loved her Mexican family very much.
Marge was always a loving and caring person to all who met her. She became a second mother and friend to many who had the privilege to meet her. She welcomed new additions to the family with open arms and a generous heart. She was known affectionately as Camping Grandma, then in later years as Grandma Great. Her spirituality allowed her to see the real person in everyone. She was a strong woman, yet weak; this gave her the ability to love and understand those of us who struggle on a daily basis.
Her humor, love of life and accepting nature made memories for many. With a strong sense of family and friends, she loved having family dinners and holiday get togethers. She enjoyed singing childhood song Abba Dabba, playing card games and long talks with loved ones. She also enjoyed sitting on her patio watching her garden grow. Collecting plants from friends and family, her garden grew bigger year after year. Another joy in her life was reading books to her children, grand children, and finally her great grand children. She also loved reading Time and Macleans magazines all the while watching CNN to keep up with current events. Her favorite reading was especially thriller/suspense novels, often unable to put a book down until it was finished. She would debate world affairs and politics, her favorite being Trudeau. Watching figure skating, curling and Tiger Woods were others of her favorite things.
If asked what her shining moments in her golden years were, she would tell you it was her travels with Russ while camping or to Mexico. She was always proud of her five children Glenda, Don, Marilyn, Randy and Doug. This was later extended with Rick, Terry and Allen when she fell in love with and married Russ Robinson. Her grand children James, Richard, Max, Rob, Jim, Tracey, Karla, Amy, Kyla and Ryan. Her great grand children Jordyne, Koral, Michael, Keiran, Tessa, Nazneen, Nadia, Shania, Chantal, Asher, Gabe, Eli, Isaac, Rhea and Ryland.
She leaves behind her sister Grace/Bud and nieces Terri, Donna, Micki, Kim; her brother Frank/Pat and their children Mitchell and Shannon; brother Ron/Gerda and their son Lee.
Marge was predeceased by her parents Forrest and Susie Piper, Sandy Templeton, daughter Glenda, nephew Bruce Piper, and husband Russ Robinson.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held July 5, 2008 at Bergeron Funeral Services in Dawson Creek B.C. Followed by an inurnment at Brookside Cemetery in Dawson Creek B.C. the morning of July 7, 2008. She was laid to rest beside her daughter Glenda Jean Doyle and son in law Gordon Lawrence Doyle.
