Kevin Dean Peachey - 1980 – 2008
On March 7, 2008 Kevin Peachey passed away after courageously battling a brain tumour, first diagnosed in 2003.
Kevin will be remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Lori (nee Weaver), parents Jesse and Faye Peachey of Bay Tree, nine brothers and sisters: Carol Peachey, David and Barbara Peachey, Jon and Sue Peachey, Julia and Dan Brubaker, Alta Peachey and Dennis Breen, Twila and Brian Smucker, Glen and Susannah Peachey, Luci and Dan Martin, and Linda and Steve Overholt, 39 nieces and nephews, and 4 great-nieces and nephews, as well as by Lori’s family of Millmont, Pennsylvania.
Born in Dawson Creek, on May 21, 1980, Kevin grew up in Bay Tree, Alberta. He bonded uniquely with his father through their mutual love of the Peace River country and through countless hours of working together at the sawmill. Kevin never missed an opportunity to make his mother laugh with his affectionate teasing, a warm hug, or the perfect landscaping suggestion. His enthusiasm and energy delighted his brothers and sisters. He spent happy hours with his beloved nieces and nephews – canoeing, hiking, quadding, and swinging across the canyon.
Kevin loved the Lord deeply. Baptized at Rolla Baptist Church, he was most recently a member of the Bay Tree Mennonite Church. He was friend, mentor, and role model to many, including the children of Bay Tree Mennonite School, especially after developing an interest in their teacher, Miss Lori!
As owner and operator of KP Logging, Kevin was well-respected for his strong work ethic, integrity, and friendliness.
Kevin’s diagnosis did nothing to quell his zest for life. He continued to enjoy his favourite things, entrusting his future with its uncertainties into the hands of God. He and Lori met in September, 2005. Despite the knowledge that their time together could be short, they spent long hours learning to know each other – enjoying hikes, quad rides, and visits with family and friends. They were engaged in December, 2006, and married on a mountaintop in Pennsylvania on June 30, 2007. After a honeymoon in Alaska, they returned to Bay Tree where they worked together on their rustic home, building dreams and deep bonds of friendship.
In October the couple faced news that Kevin’s tumour was growing. With characteristic courage, they agreed to take part in the DCA experimental drug study at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. His wife Lori was at his bedside every day. Observers were blessed by their commitment and devotion to each other.
Despite his short years, Kevin lived richly, abundantly, fully. He leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories, and a testimony of loving God, loving others, and enjoying a lot of swing rides across the canyon along the way.
A funeral service was held on March 14, 2008 at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, officiated by Pastor Dave Swartzentruber and Pastor William Byler. Interment followed in the Briar Ridge Cemetery, East Pouce Coupe, British Columbia.
