James Douglas Patchett
December 12,1928 – September 18,2008
Jimmy Patchett passed away Sept 18,2008 in Dawson Creek British Columbia, three months shy of his 80th birthday.
Jimmy was born to Arthur and Sara Patchett in Merrit, British Columbia on December 12, 1928. Jimmy was the youngest of eight children.
After spending the first 12 years in Merrit the family moved to Quesnel. Jimmy started his career in the family business A.L Patchett and Sons. In 1957 he met Loretta Lust and in 1958 they were married. They then started their family of four children. Jimmy went on to start his own business North Caribou Transport, and then Airport Auto Wreckers. Raising the family until their early teens Jimmy decided he needed a change and came home to announce he was moving the family to Dawson Creek where he was going to run a gas station, that was short lived and he then joined Borek Construction and Farms and stayed there until he retired.
Jimmy had incredible work ethics and was very loyal to the things and people he believed in and never judged any one. Being a dedicated family man he kept in touch with all his family no matter where they were. If the kids ever needed any advice he always came through even if it was a lecture or two and was often heard saying life is what you make it.
Few people knew that Jimmy had a talent for singing and dancing both the voice and feet were very smooth, he often sang a few songs to his children and grandchildren. He loved hockey and the only team for him was the Vancouver Canucks, whether they won or lost he never jumped to another team. His favourite hobby had to be his investments in bingo and would always bring a smile to his face, especially the night he won the big pot amounting just over 20 thousand dollars. The other main hobby for Jimmy was playing Mexican train dominos with family and friends. If any one was willing to play he was defiantly ready any time of the day or night.
On January 18,2008 Jimmy celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife Loretta at a special get together with family and close friends.
Jimmy leaves behind his unconditional love for his wife Loretta, sons Danny, Shane (Susan) Patchett, daughters Joanne (Dennis) Frank, Dawn Veres (Glen Schultz), grandchildren, Christina, Shawna, Stephanie, Christina, Jourdain, Justin, and Alexandra, great grandchildren: Zachariah, Gabrielle, Hailey, Lunden and Kyra, sisters: Bernice Petty, Ruth Coleman and Jean McMillan.
A Memorial Service was held on September 25, 2008 at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, officiated by Peggy Bergeron.
