William (Bill) McCarlie

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of William (Bill) McCarlie. Bill passed away at the Dawson Creek and District hospital in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Bill was born in Scotland on September 10, 1938.  He moved to Canada in (1963) where he would meet his future wife Doris. Bill and Doris spent the first part of their marriage in Southern Alberta before settling in Dawson Creek in 1971. They would have four children Mike, Billy, Rob and Jennifer.

Bill was proud to have worked for School District 59 for 23 years keeping the children of Canalta school safe.  After retiring in 1999, Bill spent all his time on the farm working with his pride and joy, his horses and his grandchildren. He spent many days teaching them how to farm the way he thought farming should be. He encouraged his oldest grandchild Sarah to care for and work with the horses as often as possible. Bill was proud to hear Sarah tell him that she would be a veterinarian when she grows up and would care for the horses at no charge. Bill enjoyed watching the grandkids play and joked that they didn't have a beautiful backyard like he had on the farm.

Bill enjoyed taking the children for rides on the sleigh and the wagon. Three days before Bill's death, although physically weak managed to go for a ride around the quarter section, pointing out what he wanted to be done with the fields. But this would not be his last ride, his last ride occurred on May 7, 2008 with his family by his side.Bill and Doris celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary prior to his death.

Bill leaves to mourn his wife Doris, mother in-law Hedwig Tesche, sons Mike, Billy and Rob (Phoebe) and his daughter Jennifer (Jeff), as well as his precious grandchildren Sarah, Alyssa and Elizabeth Ward and Dustin, Kierra and Tymea McCarlie, brothers Robin, Davey, John and sister Jean. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Alma and Molly.

A memorial Service was held on May 7, 2008 at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Tim Johnson.
