Beverley Roland 1931-2008

Beverley Dean Roland (nee Brown) was born October 5, 1931 in Vulcan AB, to Wayne Benjamin Brown and Zella Myrtle Brown.  She passed away September 17, 2008 in Fort St John hospital at the age of 76.   Bev was second oldest in a family of six children and is survived by her sister Genevieve, brothers Bill and Dale.

Bev grew up in Dawson Creek, attending school at South Peace Secondary.  As a teenager she worked at the Vogue theatre in the ticket office as well as the Rexall Corner Drug store and Dawson Creek Co-op before getting married.

Bev first met Cliff Roland when she was in grade 5.  When Bev was in grade 12, they started going together and became engaged.  They married on October 27, 1951.

After they married, they moved to Edmonton where they had their first child Mike later moving back to Dawson Creek where they had their second child Terry.  Sometime after, the family moved and lived along the Alaska Highway during which time Cliff and Bev had three more children, Todd, Shane and Gary.  Finally in 1967 they moved their family to Chetwynd where many of the family still reside.  Cliff passed away after a brief illness in February 1988, in Prince George Hospital.

Some of Bev’s favorite pass times in her many years included:

-      watching her grandchildren play hockey;

  • coffee time with her friends…Florence Corcoran, Teresa Bernard, Peg Stubberfield, Marion Lillico, Marion Hoover, Eileen Bertleson and many more.
  • curling and bonspieling with Cliff – she has boxes of trophies they won over the years they curled.

Bev was a loving, caring and generous person who was always willing to help others.  Shopping trips into town took a while as she would always stop and chat with old friends she would run into.

We are going to miss her more than words can say….she formed the keystone, the heart and soul of our family.

Excerpt from poem by Lindsay:

Grandma

We’ve lived, and loved and laughed,
Not realizing how quickly the time has passed.
Instead of grieving and thinking of all the sad times to come
We remember all you did for us, glad to have you as a Grandmom.
So we all pray to God that he keep you safe in his arms.
So we may see you again one day protected from harm.
Good bye Grandma we love you.

Remembered by Mike, Terry, Todd, Shane and Gary and their spouses and children.

A memorial service was held on September 22, 2008 at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Bill Evans.
